MILO PETERSEN AND THE JAZZ DISCIPLES
VISITING DIGNITARIES

Milo Petersen and the Jazz Disciples are straight ahead jazz at it's best.  A group with uncompromised musicality and spirit, a collaboration of highly accomplished musicians all showcasing their talents including: multi-instrumentalist Milo Petersen (leader, composer, drummer), Jay Thomas (Trumpet), Rick Mandyck (Tenor Sax), Marc Seales (Piano) and Phil Sparks (Acoustic Bass). All are leaders in Jazz who have worked separately and together in various combinations for years. They speak a musical language that is not unlike that of Miles Davis' last acoustic quintet with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams. That quintet was one of the major forces in jazz. Milo and his fellow musicians are disciples in the sense of being followers of those pioneers whose lessons are the very foundations of American Jazz Music.

Full of strong and melodic compositions, Visiting Dignitaries is reminiscent of some of the finest American jazz composers and arrangers such as, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter. Milo's compositions capture the spirit and the improvisational essence of the jazz masters. "This CD is dedicated to the memory of the men and women who first took jazz music around the world. While facing adversity at home, they were often regarded as visiting dignitaries abroad" says Milo Petersen.
