One of drummer Milo Petersen's compositions, "Tony" is dedicated to Tony Williams.  Petersen, trumpeter Jay Thomas, tenorist Rick Mandyck, pianist Marc Seales, and bassist Phil Sparks often bring to mind Miles Davis's last acoustic quintet. The bluesy opening number, "Blue Steele," swings brightly, and the title cut really demonstrates the group's strong ensemble playing. Trumpeter Thomas is very adept and on "Una Pina de Yayo" his tone has the tart tinge of the Cuban trumpeters. With the exception of Coltrane's "Some Other Blues," all the tunes and arrangements are by Petersen.
